It will be the award-winning and eclectic director, screenwriter, actor and musician world-renowned Emir Kusturica to preside over the jury of the 16th edition of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival of Comedy which will be held from 4 to 9 March 2019 at the headquarters of the Grimaldi Forum of the Principality of Monaco. Conceived and directed by Ezio Greggio, the Monte-Carlo Film Festival is one of the most important event entirely dedicated to comedy which, over the years, has met with growing public and critical success.
Ezio Greggio, “After the success of the 15th edition with the Jury chaired by Claude Lelouch even this year we will still have a world-renowned jury president after the extraordinary names of previous editions such as Ettore Scola, John Landis, Mario Monicelli, Lina Wertmuller, Vittorio Storaro, Michael Radford, Gabriele Muccino. The arrival of Emir Kusturica enhances the prestige of our festival. It is an honor for us to have a filmmaker like Kusturica, the undisputed master of colorful, musical, surreal cinema capable of expertly mixing comedy with farce and drama, making people laugh and cry at the same time. ”
Emir Kusturica, the esteemed Serbian filmmaker who won numerous awards including the award for best first feature at the Venice International Film Festival in 1981 for “You remember Dolly Bell”, the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989 for “The Time of the Gypsies/Il tempo dei Gitani “, The Silver Bear / special jury prize at the Berlin Festival for” Arizona Dream “in 1993, the Palma d’Oro in Cannes for the film” Underground “in 1995 and in 1998 the Leone D’Argento at the Mostra of the Venice International Film Festival for the best direction of “Black Cat, White Cat/Gatto nero, gatto bianco”, the Golden Globe in 2004 for “Life is a miracle” as Best European Film, is also a Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor in France. Appreciated by the public and by the international critics for his films with surreal, grotesque and satirical look and taste, he will join the other members of the Festival jury that this year will bring many Italian and international guests to Monte Carlo. The films in competition and out of competition will be awarded in the evening Gala on Saturday 9 March at the Grimaldi Forum and the event will be introduced by Ezio Greggio (on air in Italy on Canale 5).
