JOHN LANDIS HONORARY PRESIDENT OF THE 14TH EDITION, MICHAEL RADFORD PRESIDENT OF THE JURY AND CAREER AWARD TO COSTA-GAVRAS.
Principality of Monaco, January 18th 2017. John Landis will be the honorary president of the 14th Monte Carlo Film Festival, taking place in the principality of Monaco from February 28th to March 5th 2017.
Directing legendary movies such as The Blues Brothers (1980), Coming to America (1988), American Werewolf in London (1981), Trading Places (1983) and Animal House (1978), John Landis will receive the Legend of Comedy Award. The award will be delivered by the festival’s direction for gifting us, thanks to his passion and rebellious spirit, classics of cinema history that have become part of our imaginaries.
British director and screenwriter Michael Radford, will be the president of the Jury for this year’s edition.
Among various movies written and directed by Radford are Il Postino (1994), for which he has been nominated at the Oscars for Best Director and Best Screenwriter, The Merchant of Venice (2004) with Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons, Flawless (2007) with Demi Moore and Michael Caine and Elsa & Fred with Shirley MacLaine and Christoph Plummer (2014).
The Monte Carlo Film Festival will assign the Career Award to Oscar winning director Costa-Gavras, for putting his art at the service of civic engagement and for creating few yet sharp comedies that deserve international appraisal. Among his most famous works, Z (1969), The Confession (1970), Missing (1982), State of Siege (1973) and Music Box (1989). Costa Gavras also directed comedies such as Family Council (1986) with Johnny Hallyday, Fabrice Luchini as well as the black comedy The Ax (2005).
All awards will be presented during the Gala Ceremony on March 5th 2016, hosted by Ezio Greggio at the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo.
